Universal Credit
The Government has announced that the Universal Credit taper is to be reduced to 55 per cent and work allowances are to be increased by £500.
Presenting the Autumn Budget and Spending Review 2021 in parliament today, the Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced that, 'to make sure work pays, and help some of the lowest income families in the country keep more of their hard-earned money', the Government will -
reduce the taper rate that applies in universal credit from 63 per cent to 55 per cent; and
increase the work allowances - the amount that households with children or a household member with limited capability for work can earn before their universal credit award begins to be reduced - by £500 a year.
The changes, that will be introduced by 1 December 2021 and are expected to benefit 1.9 million working households.
