Client Testimonials

From 2018 to 2020, Financial Fitness received funding from the European Social Fund and Scottish Government to increase the capacity of our organisation. Watch our video or read on to find out how some clients benefited from our support thanks to this funding.

The funding, from the £9.7m Growing the Social Economy Programme to tackle poverty and inequality, allowed us to recruit 2 new Advisers. This enabled us to support almost 1,200 new clients over the 2 year period, securing £2.5m in financial outcomes in the process.

Miss C contacted us following her split from her husband. As a working lone parent, she was unsure if she was due any benefits and had no experience of the welfare system. Our Adviser carried out a benefit check and identified a number of benefits she could claim based on her income. The claim forms were completed and submitted, resulting in successful entitlements to Universal Credit (£5,269 per year), Council Tax Reduction (£646 per year) and Discretionary Housing Payment (£661 per year).

“Your colleague made me feel like a human being again. Thank you.”

— Miss C

Mr W was referred to ourselves after his wife sadly passed away. Our Adviser discovered he had not claimed for his state retirement pension and was also eligible for Pension Credit, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. We assisted him to claim all of these benefits which were successfully awarded, resulting in a yearly financial increase of £20,193.

“It’s good to know that you are there for people like me.”

— Mr W

Miss S required our help in applying for Disability Living Allowance for her disabled child. We supported Miss S with the claim form and the benefit was awarded at the appropriate rate, along with a backdated arrears payment. As a direct result of our Adviser’s help, Miss S and her family are now £4,995 better off each year.

“Excellent, friendly and very helpful staff. A big thanks.”

— Miss S

Mrs M received support from our Adviser to complete an application for Personal Independence Payment and to make a new claim for Universal Credit. Both claims were successful and backdated arrears were also awarded. As a result of our help, Mrs M now receives £12,582 per year in previously unclaimed benefits.

“This is a very valuable service and I have every faith in the staff who do their best to give good advice and help people.”

— Mrs M

“Without your assistance we would not be getting Pension Credit or Carers Allowance. This extra money has made a big difference to our standard of living.”
